Role Overview

Lead Power System Engineer role based at the GEV Power Conversion Chennai site.

Support customers globally through execution of projects using Power Conversion products and solutions.

Collaborate with global functional teams while developing technical and strategic business capability.

Responsibilities

  • Create and review system solutions during the order-to-revenue process, ensuring technical fitness, risk awareness, and contingencies.
  • Lead project execution, analyze customer contracts, and prepare specifications for vendors and internal stakeholders.
  • Perform basic and detailed engineering for variable speed drive systems, transformers, motors, switchgear, and cables.
  • Prepare contractual technical documentation and review vendor documentation.
  • Perform and review power system designs and studies for multiple industries and domains.
  • Identify technical risks, develop mitigation plans, and improve processes, systems, equipment, tools, and technologies.
  • Ensure compliance with company and customer EHS policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate with engineering, technology, value engineering, supply chain, subcontractors, suppliers, and other GE businesses.
  • Drive lean practices and support successful execution across multidisciplinary projects.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical engineering from a reputed college or university.
  • 10 to 12 years of experience in engineering design or power system studies involving VSDs, transformers, motors, and switchgear.
  • Experience with system integration on multidisciplinary projects.
  • Knowledge and application of international standards.
  • Familiarity with marine classification society rules such as ABS, DNV, LR, and BV.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications.
  • Ability to adapt, multitask, solve complex problems, and work with international multidisciplinary teams.

Desired Qualifications

  • Self-motivated, creative, organized, and able to prioritize across multiple projects and strict timelines.
  • Strong oral and written communication, interpersonal, prioritization, and time management skills.
  • Willingness to travel on short notice and work extended hours during critical periods.
  • Proficiency in Matlab, ETAP, EDSA, PSCAD, SKM, or EMTP is advantageous.
  • Proficiency in French or German is advantageous.

Work Arrangement

  • The role is based at the GEV Power Conversion site in Chennai.
  • Relocation assistance is provided.
  • Travel within the base country and overseas may be required.
