Role overview

Capital One Travel is building a new product area within its consumer travel portal.

The Lead Software Engineer will design and ship high-impact systems from scratch while defining the technical foundation for a scalable business area.

The team uses AI-native development practices across specification, prototyping, implementation, testing, and delivery.

What you'll do

Build customer-facing products and platform services across data, APIs, and user experiences.
Use modern AI tooling to prototype, generate, test, and ship features across multiple surfaces.
Partner with product, design, business, and external supply or partner contacts.
Own technical solutions end to end and lead a portfolio of fast-moving projects.
Mentor engineers and establish a high engineering standard for AI-accelerated delivery.
Make architecture decisions for systems that need to scale quickly and reliably.
Work with JavaScript, Angular, React, Node.js, HTML/CSS, TypeScript, Java, open source frameworks, and RESTful web services.
Support cross-browser and cross-device development.

Basic qualifications

Bachelor's degree.
At least 4 years of software engineering experience; internship experience does not apply.
At least 1 year of cloud computing experience.

Preferred qualifications

Master's degree.
7+ years of experience in at least one of JavaScript, React, Angular, Node.js, TypeScript, or Java.
3+ years of experience with AWS, Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure, or another cloud service.
4+ years of experience with open source frameworks.
1+ years of people management experience.
2+ years of experience with Agile practices.
Hands-on experience building and shipping projects with AI across the full development lifecycle.
Experience launching customer-facing features at rapid scale in a consumer or marketplace environment.

Compensation

The New York, NY annual salary range is $215,200 to $245,600 for the Lead Software Engineer role.
The role may also include performance-based incentive compensation, including cash bonuses or long-term incentives.
