Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end payroll processing across India, Singapore, Hong Kong, Australia, China, and Japan utilizing a combination of internal resources and third-party payroll providers
- Ensure accurate and timely payroll processing, statutory filings, tax reporting, and year-end payroll activities in each country
- Review and approve payroll calculations, variance reports, off-cycle payments, incentive payments, equity-related payroll transactions, and termination payments
- Serve as the escalation point for complex payroll, tax, and compliance matters
- Monitor payroll controls and perform periodic audits to ensure data integrity and compliance
- Partner with Finance to support payroll accounting, reconciliations, accruals, and reporting requirements
- Maintain payroll calendars and governance processes to ensure service-level commitments are met
- Support internal and external audits and respond to payroll-related compliance inquiries
- Oversee administration of employee benefits programs across the APAC region, including medical, life insurance, retirement, wellness, and other local benefit offerings
- Manage enrollments, terminations, employee status changes, and annual renewal processes
- Partner with brokers, carriers, and vendors to ensure effective service delivery and cost management
- Support benefits benchmarking, market reviews, renewal negotiations, and implementation of new programs
- Resolve complex employee benefit inquiries and escalations
- Ensure benefit programs remain compliant with local employment and regulatory requirements
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of payroll and benefits professionals across the APAC region
- Establish performance expectations, workload priorities, and development plans for team members
- Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, customer service, and operational excellence
- Provide hands-on support during payroll cycles, peak periods, system implementations, and critical business initiatives
- Build cross-training plans to minimize key-person dependency and strengthen organizational resiliency
- Monitor legislative and regulatory developments impacting payroll, taxation, social insurance, pensions, and employee benefits
- Ensure compliance with local labor laws and statutory obligations across all supported countries
- Develop and maintain payroll and benefits policies, procedures, and documentation
- Partner with Legal, Finance, Compliance, and external advisors on regulatory changes and risk mitigation strategies
- Drive compliance reviews and process audits to identify and address control gaps
- Identify and implement opportunities to improve payroll accuracy, efficiency, automation, and employee experience
- Partner with HRIS and HR Operations teams to maintain payroll integrations and employee data accuracy
- Lead testing and implementation activities for system upgrades, process changes, and new country requirements
- Develop standardized reporting and metrics to monitor payroll performance, service delivery, and compliance
- Serve as a trusted advisor to HR leaders, Finance teams, Business Partners, and employees throughout APAC
- Collaborate with global payroll, HR operations, compensation, mobility, tax, and benefits teams to ensure consistent practices
- Manage relationships with payroll providers, brokers, consultants, and other third-party partners
Qualifications
- 8+ years of progressive payroll and benefits experience with significant responsibility across multiple APAC countries
- 3+ years of people management experience
- Demonstrated experience supporting payroll operations in India and additional APAC jurisdictions such as Singapore, Hong Kong, Australia, China, and Japan
- Strong understanding of payroll taxation, statutory requirements, social insurance programs, and employment regulations throughout APAC
- Experience managing third-party payroll providers and benefits vendors
- Advanced Excel and payroll reporting capabilities
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience within a multinational or global organization
- Experience supporting equity compensation or global mobility payroll processes
- Exposure to Oracle HCM, Workday, SuccessFactors, or other enterprise HRIS platforms
- Professional payroll certifications or related qualifications
Education Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or related discipline
