Role Overview
Grant Thornton is building a digital function as part of a £500m transformation of how the firm works and delivers for clients.
Lead Engineers serve as the senior technical voice in delivery teams and work hands-on in an AI-native environment from prototyping through deployment.
The role owns technical direction and delivery quality across one or two small teams while working with product managers and senior business stakeholders.
Engineers work in a matrix, embedded in a service line for delivery and connected to a wider engineering function for standards and career development.

Key responsibilities
- Set technical direction for teams and own the quality of delivered work.
- Mentor engineers on craft and on when and how to use AI tooling.
- Build and maintain integrations, MCP builds, API connections and infrastructure around the GenAI platform.
- Build systems, tools and solutions in an AI-native way.
- Translate technical design and constraints with senior stakeholders and business teams.
- Make technical debt and trade-offs visible while keeping delivery predictable.
- Contribute to engineering standards and wider function improvement.
