Role overview
GHD is seeking a junior electrical technologist to support transportation electrical work.
The role covers roadways, bridges, transitways, municipal and county roads, multi-use pathways, and parking facilities.
The position can be based in Toronto, Mississauga, Markham, or Whitby.
Workplace
- The workplace follows a hybrid model with in-office collaboration three days per week.
Core responsibilities
- Support electrical project teams on multidisciplinary projects.
- Perform lighting, loading, short circuit, voltage drop, and Arc Flash Analysis calculations.
- Assist with traffic signal, lighting, and intelligent transportation system design.
- Prepare contract documents and quantity take-offs.
- Complete assigned work on time, conduct quality checks, and follow internal procedures.
- Coordinate with authorities, utility companies, and external design team members.
Additional activities
- Help install complex systems and inspect equipment with guidance.
- Support project management, product development, data collection, standard reporting, testing, and supervised maintenance activities.
- Build technical capabilities through training, coaching, ongoing education, and industry learning.
Required qualifications
- Three to five years of highway electrical, lighting, traffic signal, or intelligent transportation systems design or construction experience with an engineering consultancy.
- College diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology.
- Excellent knowledge of AutoCAD and MicroStation.
- Excellent Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook skills.
- Knowledge of OPS, OESC, CSA, IES, TAC, and OTM standards.
- G class driver’s license.
- Self-motivation, quick learning, multitasking, and strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
Preferred experience
- Municipal or MTO project experience is highly desirable.
Compensation
- The stated salary is $30 per hour.
