Role overview

Yapily is hiring a Junior Software Engineer for its Data Products team in a hybrid London role.

The role supports development of a modern data platform, including data pipelines, billing infrastructure, and self-serve data APIs.

The position is intended for someone with a strong computer science foundation who wants to specialize in data engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with scalable data ingestion and processing systems using ETL/ELT methodologies.
  • Deploy and maintain software using GCP services including Pub/Sub, BigQuery, and Cloud Storage.
  • Collaborate with BI, infrastructure, and product teams on data requirements and technical solutions.
  • Help build and document APIs for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Work with SQL and NoSQL databases to optimize schemas and support high-volume transactions.
  • Contribute to billing infrastructure in an event-driven environment.
  • Participate in testing, monitoring, logging, code reviews, and agile ceremonies.

Essential qualifications

  • 2–3 years of programming experience, including internships or intensive projects.
  • Academic or professional SQL exposure, with the ability to write queries and understand basic schema design.
  • Familiarity with Git and basic CI/CD concepts.
  • Basic understanding of REST APIs and microservice communication.
  • A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • A proactive approach to debugging and curiosity about data flows.

Preferred skills

  • Basic Python or Shell knowledge for scripting and data automation.
  • Exposure to GCP, AWS, or Azure; cloud certifications are a plus.
  • Familiarity with Docker or containerized applications.
  • Exposure to Airflow, Kafka, Spark, Terraform, or Terragrunt.
  • Interest in Open Banking and the FinTech landscape.
