About the Role

The Janitor is essential for maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for both employees and visitors in our NAVAIR, MD facility. This role involves performing a variety of cleaning and maintenance tasks to ensure that all areas are hygienic and presentable. The successful candidate will be responsible for upholding the highest standards of cleanliness, which directly contributes to the overall productivity and morale of the workplace. Additionally, the janitor will play a key role in identifying maintenance needs and reporting them to management, ensuring that the facility remains in optimal condition. Ultimately, this position is vital for creating a positive first impression and fostering a healthy work environment for all staff and guests.

Responsibilities

  • Clean commercial offices and buildings for local government, as well as recreational areas and restrooms
  • Perform routine cleaning tasks including sweeping, mopping, dusting, cleaning ceiling vents, etc.
  • Ensure restrooms are clean, stocked, and well-maintained throughout the day.
  • Perform and document routine inspections and maintenance activities.
  • Carry out heavy cleaning tasks and special projects.
  • Notify management of occurring deficiencies or needs for repairs.
  • Stock and maintain supply rooms.
  • Follow all health and safety regulations.
  • Collects and disposes regular trash, RMW (Regulated Medical Waste), and recycling materials.
  • Replenishes, hand soap and other supplies as needed.
  • Dust mops floors using standard operating procedure.
  • Wet mops floors with disinfectant, following standard operating procedure.
  • Handles various types of cleaning chemicals in compliance with applicable regulations and utilizes appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Dusts all horizontal and vertical surfaces, furniture, spot wash walls, clean and polish fixtures, air vents, handrails, blinds, windows and sills and other items as required.
  • Empty trash receptacles and dispose of waste in accordance with safety and environmental regulations.
  • Report any maintenance issues or safety hazards to the management team promptly.
  • Assist with special cleaning projects as needed, including deep cleaning and sanitization efforts.

Other Responsibilities

  • Reports any conditions requiring maintenance attention or repair to immediate supervisor.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in janitorial or custodial work.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to comprehend and follow detailed instructions in English

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of cleaning chemicals and supplies.
  • Ability to operate cleaning equipment such as floor buffers and vacuums.

Work Environment

Physical demands include continuous movement, including frequent standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, climbing, pushing, pulling, reaching, and other use of hands.

Be able to lift 50 pounds

Frequent exposure to chemicals such as cleaning solutions; potential exposure to blood and other bodily fluids.
