Base Career helps you apply smarter for this job.
Key skills for this role
• You'll be building and testing major new features, as well as improving and maintaining existing functionality.
• Our programming language of choice is Swift, and we now build all new features exclusively using SwiftUI, but you’ll occasionally work with legacy code in Objective-C.
• You won't be coding in isolation - our culture is strongly collaborative, whether pair programming with other developers or working closely with designers, editorial and commercial colleagues.
• Sometimes deciding what code to write is as hard as writing the code itself. As an engineer you'll be involved in product decisions as well as technical ones.
• You'll be reviewing the code of other engineers to ensure we maintain our app's high standard.
• You'll contribute to technical discussions and help evolve our architecture and engineering practices
• You’llcollaborate closely with product managers, designers and fellow engineers to deliver high-quality user experiences
• You'll strive to be innovative on a daily basis, as well as at our regular hack days. For example, a recent hack day saw the iOS team develop a new home screen widget using SwiftUI, which has now been shipped to the App Store.
About you
• Experience developing iOS applications in Swift, with a good understanding of modern iOS development using SwiftUI and UIKit and Apple's core frameworks.
• The ability to independently deliver well-scoped features, producing high-quality, maintainable code and taking responsibility for your work from development through to release.
• An understanding of software design principles and a willingness to contribute to architectural discussions, learning from and collaborating with more experienced engineers on complex technical challenges.
• A collaborative approach to working with product managers, designers and fellow engineers, communicating effectively and contributing positively to the team's success.
• Curiosity and a desire to continually develop your technical skills, improve the developer experience, and contribute ideas that enhance our products and ways of working.
• An appreciation for cross-functional collaboration, enjoying working with Android and backend engineers to deliver a consistent experience across platforms. Familiarity with Kotlin for Android, or Scala and Typescript for server side development is useful, but not essential.
