Intermediate Water Resources Engineer

Wood's Calgary office is recruiting for an Intermediate Water Resources Engineer to join our team.

As part of the Water Resources team, the successful candidate will be responsible for the design of the hydraulic structures (i.e., open channels, culverts, weirs and spillways) related to mine water management and for other areas of analysis include erosion and sediment control, water balance, dam breach assessments, hydrologic and hydraulic modelling and environmental impact studies. Suitable candidates willing to acquire training in these areas will also be considered.

You will therefore be expected to build business relationships with clients and partnerships with in-house clients.

You will also have the opportunity of working with other offices across Canada on a project basis.

• University graduate with a Degree in Civil Engineering specializing in Water Resources or a related university degree
• A post-graduate degree in Water Resources is an asset, but is not required
• Currently registered or eligible for registration as a P.Eng in the province of Alberta
• Minimum of 8 years of experience in water resources, with considerable experience on project work in Canada or the U.S
• A demonstrated track record in, hydrology, hydraulics and mine water management projects
• Capable of assuming full project work cycle responsibilities and managing entire project scope
• Experience in management of small scale projects
• Experience in northern climate analysis and surface water hydrology, preferably in Alberta
• Experience in river engineering, hydraulic modeling, hydraulic structures, flood routing, sediment control and erosion protection
• Knowledge of regulatory requirements and experience in preparing permit applications
• Knowledge of dam breach analysis and CDA Guidelines is an asset
• Initiative, enthusiasm and commitment to technical excellence
• Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication as well as presentation skills
• Hydraulic structures design – culverts, drop structures and other control structures
• Experience with urban stormwater management is an asset
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office, HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, FlowMaster, CulvertMaster, Global Mapper, and GoldSim (knowledge of some of the software is adequate)
