Working with an energetic and high performing team, this position offers a variety of work and will see you involved in
Developing civil and transportation engineering designs for roadway, highway, transit, rail, multimodal corridor, site grading, drainage, and municipal servicing projects.
Preparing conceptual and detailed designs for new roads, highway improvements, roadway reconstruction, transit facilities, and linear infrastructure.
Preparing transportation and civil engineering drawings, plans, profiles, sections, details, quantities, and supporting design documentation for transportation infrastructure projects.
Supporting the development of roadway, grading, drainage, municipal servicing, and transportation infrastructure designs from concept through detailed design.
Applying applicable codes, guidelines, and standards, including transportation geometric design guidance, Ontario Provincial Standard Specifications, Ontario Provincial Standard Drawings, and client-specific requirements.
Supporting the preparation of technical memoranda, reports, specifications, scopes of work, cost estimates, schedules, and contract documents.
Coordinating designs and providing technical direction to junior engineers, engineers-in-training, technicians, and design staff.
Reviewing drawings, plans, and engineering deliverables for technical quality, standards compliance, constructability, and multidisciplinary coordination.
Collaborating with civil, structural, drainage, geotechnical, environmental, electrical, and other engineering disciplines to produce high-quality project deliverables.
Communicating regularly with project managers, technical leads, designers, and project team members to support the timely flow of information and achievement of project deadlines.
Maintaining effective working relationships with clients, municipalities, transportation agencies, utility companies, subconsultants, contractors, and other project stakeholders.
Interpreting geotechnical, hydrological, survey, and other technical information required to advance civil and transportation designs.
Supporting transportation projects delivered through procurement models such as Design-Bid-Build and Design-Build.
Contributing to project planning, design coordination, schedule development, budget monitoring, and the management of project deliverables.
Supporting project managers and design leads with project planning, coordination, schedule development, and project delivery activities to gain exposure to project leadership responsibilities.
Participating in design coordination meetings with clients, stakeholders, and multidisciplinary teams to develop communication, leadership, and project management skills.
Assisting with the planning and coordination of engineering work packages, design reviews, and interdisciplinary deliverables to build experience toward future Design Lead, Design Manager, or Project Manager roles.
Various opportunities for career development toward Senior Engineer, Design Lead, Design Manager, or Project Manager roles within GHD's Transportation business.
Supporting continuous improvement initiatives, technical quality programs, design standards, and engineering best practices within the Roads and Highways Team.
Following applicable project requirements, quality procedures, design standards, and GHD practices throughout the project lifecycle.
Participating in the development and improvement of GHD civil and transportation standards, workflows, training materials, and lessons learned initiatives.
Required
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.
Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in Ontario, or eligibility to obtain one.
6+ years contributing to the planning, design, and delivery of transportation infrastructure projects.
Strong technical capability in roadway design, grading and drainage, municipal servicing, and transportation infrastructure engineering.
Proven ability to develop engineering drawings, plans, profiles, sections, details, and construction documentation.
Success working within multidisciplinary engineering teams to deliver integrated project solutions.
Ability to coordinate design activities and provide technical guidance to junior staff.
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple assignments while meeting project schedules and deliverable commitments.
Understanding of design effort, project scheduling, and resource planning requirements.
Preferred
Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D, OpenRoads Designer, or similar transportation design platforms.
Familiarity with roadway corridor modelling and pipe network design.
Understanding of transportation geometric design principles, including TAC Geometric Design Guide and MTO Design Supplement.
Familiarity with Ontario design standards and specifications, including OPSS and OPSDs.
Experience with Bentley applications such as MicroStation or OpenRoads.
Knowledge of Navisworks, Dynamo, Revit, InRoads, or other digital design and modelling tools.
Familiarity with contract preparation platforms such as CPS, HiCo, and Builterra.
Experience using BIM collaboration platforms such as ProjectWise or Autodesk Construction Cloud.
Familiarity delivering projects for MTO, Metrolinx, municipalities, regional governments, or transportation agencies across Ontario.
Exposure to highway, freeway, municipal roadway, transit, LRT, BRT, or multimodal transportation corridor projects.
The salary range for this position is $73,025 - $123,375. The posted salary range represents the expected hiring range for GHD locations in its major city centres. Ranges may vary for positions in other locations. At GHD, base salary is determined by your skills, experience, qualifications and work location.
