Intermediate Civil Engineer- Transportation

Role overview

Responsibilities

• Develop civil and transportation designs for roadway, highway, transit, rail, multimodal corridor, grading, drainage, and municipal servicing projects.
• Prepare conceptual and detailed designs, drawings, plans, profiles, sections, quantities, and supporting documentation.
• Apply applicable codes, transportation guidance, Ontario standards, specifications, drawings, and client requirements.
• Prepare or support reports, technical memoranda, specifications, scopes, cost estimates, schedules, and contract documents.
• Coordinate designs, guide junior staff, review deliverables, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and project stakeholders.
• Interpret geotechnical, hydrological, survey, and other technical information needed to advance designs.
• Support Design-Bid-Build and Design-Build projects, project planning, schedule development, budget monitoring, and deliverable management.
• Contribute to quality programs, design standards, workflows, training materials, lessons learned, and continuous improvement.

Required qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.
• Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in Ontario, or eligibility to obtain one.
• At least six years of experience in transportation infrastructure planning, design, and delivery.
• Strong capability in roadway design, grading and drainage, municipal servicing, and transportation engineering.
• Ability to develop engineering drawings and construction documentation and work within multidisciplinary teams.
• Ability to coordinate design activities, guide junior staff, communicate effectively, and manage multiple assignments.

Preferred qualifications

• Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D, OpenRoads Designer, or similar transportation design platforms.
• Familiarity with roadway corridor modelling, pipe network design, TAC guidance, MTO supplements, OPSS, and OPSDs.
• Experience with Bentley applications, digital design and modelling tools, contract preparation platforms, or BIM collaboration platforms.
• Experience delivering projects for MTO, Metrolinx, municipalities, regional governments, or transportation agencies.
• Exposure to highway, freeway, municipal roadway, transit, LRT, BRT, or multimodal corridor projects.

Salary

• The posted salary range is $73,025 to $123,375.
• The hiring range may vary by location and is determined by skills, experience, qualifications, and work location.

Workplace

• The role is based in an office, with the primary office identified as Whitby and additional Ontario locations listed for consideration.
