As the Technical Lead, the role will involve leading, directing and scoping projects, shaping the Arup T&D Energy business, and mentoring and training staff on projects. The role will involve bid preparation and project management responsibilities for opportunities associated within the Energy team.
This role will be working on a range of Australian and international assignments in the energy and renewable power sector from small scale generation to utility sized generation and storage. Technology would cover transmission and distribution assets, substations, solar PV, battery energy storage systems (BESS), onshore and offshore wind. Relevant workstreams would cover T&D design, substation design, power systems studies, renewable energy studies, and front-end engineering design.
The Opportunity
Provide technical design leadership, experience and capability to the design teams on all aspects of T&D engineering and design whilst developing a healthy working relationship with clients.
Significantly input to the development and testing of innovative technical solutions.
Assist with connections for renewable energy projects including onshore and offshore wind farm projects, as well as solar and BESS projects.
Project manage T&D infrastructure projects to agreed scope, budget, schedule and quality. Execute management responsibilities as outlined in Arup’s Management System.
Manage the overall technical performance of members of the T&D group/team, as part of the technical leadership team; this role is required to promote learning opportunities from successes and problems that arise
Lead T&D design bids and liaise with consultants, contractors and clients
Provide technical and other support to Arup Energy’s client and business development activities which might include (but not be limited to) client facing engagement, capability statement development, client introductions etc
Actively participate in the growth of the WA Energy team.
Lead and coordinate (design /project manage) T&D engineering resources and specialists across APAC, in the design of transmission and distribution projects.

Is this role right for you?
Recognised relevant tertiary qualifications in Electrical Engineering or similar area;
Relevant industry experience within the HV power, T&D / Substation design and consulting business environment;
Strong WA HV power experience;
Client-side experience with transmission/distribution service providers.
Proficiency in design and analysis software e.g. DIgSILENT PowerFactory, PSSE, PS-CAD, ETAP, and CDEGS
Proven ability to grasp business dynamics, making informed decisions to drive growth and success by integrating market insights.
Ability to communicate clearly and adapt interpersonal style to connect with diverse stakeholders, fostering open dialogue and collaboration.
Demonstratable ability to convey ideas precisely through writing, tailoring messages to resonate with various audiences and convey complex concepts effectively.
Ability to make well-considered decisions, combining data-driven insights with empathy and ethics to address challenges effectively.
