Role Overview
Lead planning, organization, direction, and control of hull construction for newbuilding vessel projects.
Ensure vessels are built safely, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with quality and classification requirements.
Maximize productivity, optimize resources, manage manpower, and drive continuous improvement across hull construction operations.
Production Management
- Manage hull construction from steel fabrication through block assembly, block erection, and structural completion.
- Coordinate construction with engineering, planning, procurement, quality, outfitting, and project teams.
- Monitor production progress, contractual milestones, workforce, facilities, equipment, and materials.
Hull Fabrication and Block Construction
- Lead steel fabrication workshops, panel lines, sub-assembly, assembly, and block construction.
- Manage block erection and alignment in dry docks, slipways, and erection areas.
- Monitor welding, structural fabrication, dimensional control, and NDT activities.
- Coordinate heavy lifting and transportation of blocks and modules.
Resources and Planning
- Develop manpower loading plans and allocate supervisors, foremen, subcontractors, and production personnel.
- Review schedules, construction strategies, build sequences, production KPIs, manhours, productivity, and earned value.
- Support budget preparation, cost control, recruitment, training, performance management, and succession planning.
Quality and HSE
- Ensure compliance with classification society requirements, client specifications, company procedures, and international shipbuilding standards.
- Participate in inspections with owners, class surveyors, and regulatory bodies and support nonconformance resolution.
- Promote safety and conduct reviews and risk assessments for lifting, confined-space, hot-work, and work-at-height activities.
Continuous Improvement
- Implement Lean Manufacturing, 5S, Six Sigma, productivity, workflow, and fabrication improvement initiatives.
- Analyze production bottlenecks and improve fabrication, assembly, and erection methodologies.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Naval Architecture, Ocean Engineering, Shipbuilding Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
- Minimum 15–20 years of experience in shipbuilding, shipyard operations, or heavy engineering projects.
- Proven experience managing hull fabrication, block assembly, block erection, and shipbuilding construction.
- Strong experience leading large multidisciplinary shipyard teams and managing subcontractors, schedules, manpower, and budgets.
- Experience with large commercial, naval, offshore, or newbuild vessel projects is preferred.
- Additional project management or shipbuilding certifications are advantageous.
