Job Description

The HSE Manager – NSW & NZ is based in Sydney, Australia, and reports to the Director HSE APAC.

The role leads HSE performance for NSW and New Zealand operations and serves as lead HSE representative on strategic bids and initiatives.

The position combines operational HSE excellence with pre-contract work for major rail and infrastructure projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead HSE across NSW and New Zealand operations and projects.
  • Act as HSE lead for major bids and tenders, developing methodologies, HSE strategy, client submissions, and contractor prequalification support.
  • Lead obtaining and maintaining Federal Safety Commissioner accreditation and drive compliance with legal, contractual, and company requirements.
  • Embed High Reliability Organisation principles across projects and teams with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Provide leadership, coaching, strategic HSE advice, and reports to senior management.
  • Partner with bid, engineering, construction, and commercial teams to develop HSE strategies for major rail projects.

Required Skills and Knowledge

  • The successful candidate should be a credible and competent HSE professional who can influence stakeholders at all levels in complex project environments.
  • At least seven years of HSE leadership experience in rail, infrastructure, construction, or engineering is required.
  • Demonstrated success supporting major bids, tenders, alliances, or project pursuits is required.
  • Strong understanding of WHS legislation, risk management, assurance, and governance is required.
  • The ability to influence senior stakeholders and present confidently to clients and bid teams is required.
  • A degree qualification in WHS or Environmental Management is required.
  • Experience with Federal Safety Commissioner accreditation is highly regarded.
