HSE Engineer

Position Details

Minimum Qualifications

• Specialty areas include occupational health and safety, environmental management, hazardous materials management, process safety, and construction safety.
• A bachelor’s degree is required.
• Minimum five years of experience as a site HSE specialist or in a similar role is required.

Technical Knowledge

• Knowledge of physical, chemical, biological, and ergonomic workplace hazards.
• Understanding of risk assessment, hazard analysis, and control methods.
• Knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations and standards.
• Understanding of environmental regulations, compliance, monitoring, and sampling.
• Knowledge of waste management, disposal methods, and environmental impact assessments.
• Knowledge of hazardous materials classification, labelling, communication, handling, storage, and transportation.
• Knowledge of HAZOP studies, process safety management systems, and process safety controls.
• Proficiency in data collection, analysis, interpretation, reporting, and technical communication.
• Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and facilitate training sessions.

Primary Functions

• Ensure the health, safety, and environmental well-being of the organization and its stakeholders.
• Develop and implement HSE policies and procedures.
• Conduct risk assessments and hazard analyses.
• Provide training and education.
• Monitor and report HSE performance.
• Collaborate with stakeholders and support continuous improvement and innovation.

Business Requirements

• Ensure compliance with Bureau Veritas HSE policy.
• Continuously improve HSE performance and maintain internal and external communication.
• Promote the Bureau Veritas service portfolio to clients.
• Complete essential business information, including invoicing and timesheets.

• Maintain regular job-related contact with clients.
• Understand client needs and work toward successful project outcomes.
• Develop trust and open communication with clients.
• Monitor customer satisfaction.

HSE Accountabilities

• The role may stop work immediately when conditions or situations are unsafe and must inform the reporting person for guidance.
• Take responsibility for personal safety and the safety of people affected by work activities.
• Cooperate with others on health and safety and avoid misuse of safety or welfare provisions.
• Use appropriate PPE and report missing, worn, or unsuitable PPE.
• Report incidents, near misses, hazards, unsafe conditions, and opportunities to improve HSE practices.
• Participate in incident investigations and devise controls to eliminate or minimize risks.
• Submit required reports within assigned time frames and comply with applicable legal and HSE requirements.

Development and Performance

• Complete required professional training within specified time frames.
• Read professional journals and technical literature and attend appropriate courses or seminars.
• Progress toward individual distinctive competence targets.
• Performance indicators include fatalities, incident rates, near-hit and unsafe-condition reports, training targets, HSE audits, and regulatory compliance.
