A healthcare professional who assists the medical staff by performing history and physicals and other assigned duties as requested.

Under the supervision and monitoring the duties of a House Physician are as follows:

Assist with patient examinations by:
Gathering information for histories and physicals of patients.
Assist in examining patients when an accident or injury occurs; completes Incident Report.
Assisting in examining patients when requested by an Attending Physician.
Taking vital signs including absence of vital signs and time thereof.
Observing and reporting patient’s signs or symptoms.
Assist with patient treatments by:
Administering basic First Aid and CPR.
Collecting routine laboratory specimens as directed by the attending physician if requested.
Assist with administrative office and other procedures by:
Communicating effectively with individuals listed as interrelationships.
Following proper safety procedures and lifting techniques.
Reporting all injuries and unsafe practices to the immediate supervisor.

A House Physician has a limited medical practice.

They may only practice while employed by a Florida licensed hospital under the direct supervision of an MD or DO.

These licensees assist in conducting the professional work of the hospital by writing histories, doing and recording physical examinations, performing laboratory work, and such other functions as the medical staff feels are within the house physician’s capabilities.

House Physicians may not prescribe legend or controlled substance medication.

Use common sense and psychotherapeutic skills to care for the sick or psychiatric patient.
Helps patients, family members, physicians, visitors, and co-workers in a prompt and courteous manner. If unable to help, find someone who can.
Acknowledges and responds tactfully to all requests.
Promotes open communication with others as evident by positive and effective relationships and interactions with all departments.
Approaches situations and day to day activities in a positive manner.
Remains calm under stressful situations using logical and sound judgement to choose an appropriate course of action.
Completes assignments by due date.
Maintains current licensure/certification for position held.
Meets hospital-wide requirements for attendance at annual mandatory in-services.

Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Requires walking or standing to a significant degree, or requires sitting a minimal amount of time.

Inside: - Protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.

Subject to exposure to infectious and contagious diseases bearing specimens.
Subject to exposure to blood borne pathogens.
Subject to exposure to body fluids, and wastes.
Subject to varying and unpredictable situations including patient violence.

Apply principles of logical thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

Add, subtract, multiply and divide all units of measure including measurements utilized in clinical settings.

Reading: Read and understand instructions, safety rules, medical terminology and other written materials such as policies, procedures, etc.

Writing: Write letters, correspondence and other reports with proper format, punctuation, spelling and grammar, using all parts of speech.

Speaking: Speak with poise, voice control, and confidence using correct English and well-modulated voice.

Data: Compiling: Gathering, collating, or classifying information about data, people or things.

Reporting and/or carrying out a prescribed action in relation to information are frequently involved.

People: Speaking-Signaling: Talking with and/or signaling people to convey or exchange information.

Includes giving assignments, instructions and/or directions to helpers, subordinates or assistants.

Things: Operating-Controlling: Starting, stopping, controlling and adjusting the progress or machines or equipment.

Education: Medical Degree from Foreign Medical College or University.

Have current and valid CPR certification.
