Project Overview

Deep-Water Intake Group is delivering a Pickering Nuclear Generating Station refurbishment project involving a 5 km tunnel, two vertical shafts, and an offshore modular intake structure.

The project is near an active nuclear site and requires rigorous safety, planning, and coordination standards.

Role Overview

The Health and Safety Manager will develop, implement, and manage the health and safety program and ensure compliance with legislation.

The role includes training management and staff and recommending improvements to health and safety initiatives and plans.

Core Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain the Construction Health and Safety Management Plan, including measures for particularly hazardous work.
  • Manage Health and Safety Coordinators across onshore, marine, and tunnel operations.
  • Plan training, workshops, orientations, and awareness sessions for project personnel, service providers, and third parties.
  • Develop the behavior-based safety program and support Safety in Design activities.

Inspections and Reviews

  • Participate in project kickoff and pretask meetings and support the development of construction methods and work plans.
  • Plan and conduct regular site inspections with project, construction, and QHSE teams.
  • Lead monthly reviews of lost-time incidents and high-potential events with project leadership.
  • Define corrective actions and communicate Safety Alerts and health and safety good practices.

Coordination and Reporting

  • Coordinate required personnel health checks with Human Resources.
  • Participate in environmental presentations, weekly QHSE-Permits meetings, health and safety committees, and project forums.

Experience and Qualifications

  • At least 10 years of experience on large construction project sites.
  • At least 5 years of health and safety leadership experience on a large construction project.
  • Experience in tunneling or underground works, preferably with TBM operations, or maritime works.
  • NCSO-IHSA, CRSP, or US equivalent certification.
  • Knowledge of Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Regulations.

Required Skills

  • Experience with safety audits, incident investigations, risk assessments, safety management systems, and incident reporting tools.
  • Ability to conduct safety training and enforce safety policies.
  • Strong communication, leadership, time management, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience in high-risk environments such as nuclear or offshore projects.

Preferred Qualification

  • COR Auditor training is preferred.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Gross annual salary is CAD 140,000–165,000, depending on experience and profile.
