Head of Underwriting - Reinsurance

About the Opportunity

An exciting opportunity has arisen with a growing international reinsurance group to lead and develop its Commercial Reinsurance Underwriting portfolio.

We are seeking an experienced

with a strong background across

Treaty and/or Facultative

reinsurance to take ownership of the underwriting strategy, portfolio performance, market development and technical direction of the business.

• Lead and execute the commercial reinsurance underwriting strategy across Treaty and/or Facultative business.
• Build, manage and grow a profitable and diversified reinsurance portfolio across selected commercial and specialty classes.
• Underwrite and assess complex Treaty and Facultative submissions, including risk selection, pricing, terms, conditions, limits and capacity.
• Develop and maintain underwriting appetite, guidelines, authorities and referral frameworks.
• Identify and develop new business opportunities across the Middle East, Africa, Asia, Europe and other international markets.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers, cedants, reinsurers and other key market stakeholders.
• Develop new products, facilities and tailored reinsurance solutions in response to market opportunities.
• Monitor portfolio performance, profitability, accumulation and exposure against agreed underwriting parameters.
• Provide senior management with regular reporting on premium, exposure, loss ratios, profitability, pipeline and portfolio development.
• Ensure underwriting decisions remain aligned with the company's risk appetite, governance and overall business strategy.
• Contribute to the ongoing development of underwriting systems, processes, controls and data analytics.
• Provide technical leadership and contribute to the development of the wider underwriting team.

• 15+ years of experience in reinsurance underwriting, with strong Treaty and/or Facultative exposure.
• Proven track record of building and managing profitable reinsurance portfolios.
• Strong commercial understanding of international reinsurance markets and broker relationships.
• Experience across relevant commercial and specialty classes.
• Strong technical underwriting, portfolio management and analytical capabilities.
• Established network across international reinsurance markets.
• Strong leadership and business development capabilities, with the ability to operate at both strategic and technical levels.
