Summary
The Maintenance Mechanic - Grounds Keeper is responsible for performing maintenance within the facility, routine and on-demand services on grounds and non-technical facility components (i.e. walls, floors, etc.). The Maintenance Mechanic - Grounds Keeper is responsible for performing work in accordance with established BGIS processes / practices, within client-based contractual requirements and for complying with internal and external requirements; including but not limited to environmental, health and safety and fire protection.
At this position level:
Maintains facility grounds and non-technical facility components (i.e. walls, floors, etc.)
No trades certification/license required.
Demonstrates an interest in pursuing a trades certification or license, an asset
Certified Horticulturists or Landscape Technicians will be given preference, however previous experience is mandatory
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Performs work in accordance to established policy, processes and practices
Complies with all internal and external requirements including but not limited to environmental, health and safety and fire protection
Performs regular facility, grounds and building fabric maintenance and inspections
Provides observations about facility, grounds and non-technical component conditions and deficiencies, and provides suggestions for enhancements and repair
Responds to routine and on-demand service requests for a variety of role-related requirements
Performs maintenance within the facility, primarily on (but not limited to); Parking Levels, Roads and Grounds and Terraces
Records event rectification data within BGIS’ work order system.
Ensures work completed meets quality, contract response and all other requirements
Receives, tracks, monitors and reports status of maintenance work within service maintenance management database.
Initiates documents to obtain formal approval of work required
Assists in the development and implementation of a Landscape / Roads and Grounds preventative maintenance program.
- Ensures that deficiencies are identified, recorded and escalated, and that related documentation is maintained
Participates in and assists with facility-related projects, not necessarily focused on the grounds
Ensures the manner in which work is performed is in compliance with corporate and legislated policies, procedures, practices and guidelines related to environmental, health and safety, fire protection and any other applicable requirements
Maintains all assigned tools and arranges for repair and replacement where required
Assists in enhancing customer satisfaction and maintaining positive relations through the manner in which work is performed and services are delivered
Complete all other on-demand or ad hoc duties as assigned
Work requirements
Must be able and willing to work shifts, be available for on-call / standby and emergency call-outs as they arise
Must be willing to wear personal protective equipment
- Must be able to tolerate and perform in all seasonal conditions, along with the ability to do so over extended periods
- Must be able to competently operate various role-related tools and equipment (deck mower, line trimmer, etc...)
Position is within Healthcare sector.
Incumbent must be comfortable within a hospital setting
Knowledge & Skills
3 – 5 years of Grounds operations and maintenance work experience
High school diploma.
Some trades-related training preferred.
Certified Horticulturist or Landscape Technician preferred
Ability to adhere and to properly execute processes and practices relating to Grounds operations and maintenance
Ability to maintain facility grounds, and non-technical facility components with the highest degree of care
Ability to provide observation about facility conditions and deficiencies, and to provide suggestions for enhancements
Ability to research, learn and gain greater proficiency in applying the following skill sets on-the-job – fire, life / safety, roads and grounds safety, and building codes and standards
Possesses a strong environmental, health and safety mindset.
Ability to perform work in a safe manner
Strong client-service orientation along with a high sense of urgency
Effective communication skills for the purpose of data relay, exchange, feedback, and clarification
Licenses And And Or Professional Accreditation
- Certified Horticulturist or Landscape Technician
Demonstrates an interest in enrolling and completing a trades certification or license
Must meet enhanced security clearance requirements
Valid drivers’ license
