Key Responsibilities

  • Define HMI concepts, logic, and interaction flows aligned with operator mental models.
  • Design and develop HMI for cockpit displays, the Flight Warning System, and flight-awareness systems.
  • Apply human factors engineering to reduce workload and prevent human error.
  • Collaborate with BVLOS pilots, operators, and engineers to gather requirements and validate usability.
  • Develop System Description Documents and Interface Control Documents.
  • Support flight manuals, operator manuals, and supporting documentation.
  • Work with GCAA and other regulatory authorities on certification and airworthiness evidence.
  • Coordinate with software, validation, verification, and subcontractor teams to integrate HMI designs.
  • Support system-level validation, verification, human-in-the-loop testing, and performance assessments.
  • Design displays for geospatial, telemetry, and system-health information, with safety-driven alert hierarchies.
  • Define verification and validation means, write test procedures, and perform tests on simulators and test benches.
  • Support flight tests and analyze test data to verify system performance and functionality.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Industrial Design, or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of professional experience in HMI or GUI design for safety-critical aviation systems.
  • Good understanding of AMC 27.1302 or MIL-STD-1472.
  • Strong understanding of safety-critical system design and certification processes such as ARP4761.
  • Experience applying human factors and ergonomics to cockpit or Ground Control Station design.
  • Experience with requirements management tools such as Polarian or DOORS.
  • Familiarity with aircraft systems, system safety assessments, failure hazard analysis, and certification or test plans.
  • Very good knowledge of English.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to work in a multidisciplinary team.
