Graduate Engineer Programme

Mako is seeking inquisitive problem solvers to join its team as Graduate Engineers.

The structured programme provides industry training, mentorship, and meaningful work connected to the trading system.

Mako is an options market maker with a global trading footprint and offices including Sydney.

Programme Responsibilities

  • Work on Mako’s proprietary low-latency derivatives trading system, which is written in C++ and runs on Linux.
  • Contribute to algorithms, pricing models, user interfaces, and connectivity to derivatives venues and trading platforms.
  • Collaborate with traders, hardware engineers, support staff, and experienced engineering mentors.
  • Use Agile development and continuous integration practices to deliver business value.

Required Qualifications

  • A strong understanding of algorithms and data structures is required.
  • Knowledge of at least one mainstream object-oriented language is required.
  • A STEM degree or equivalent is required.
  • An interest in financial markets is required.
  • Only candidates with full Australian working rights will be considered; visa holders are not accepted.

Desirable Skills

  • C++ and experience with asynchronous or multithreaded programming are desirable.
  • Clean, readable, testable code, network programming, and computer architecture knowledge are desirable.
  • Python, shell scripting, CMake, Jenkins, PCAP/Wireshark, C, static analyzers, and compiler experience are beneficial.

Engineering Environment

Front Office engineering teams design and implement the proprietary trading system in pragmatic, self-organizing groups.

Teams collaborate closely with traders and technical staff in a supportive, inclusive, and entrepreneurial culture.

The programme includes technical and soft-skills training and dedicated mentorship.
