The Government Relations Director at Sté Internationale des Mines et Transport (SIMT) is a part-time remote role responsible for managing strategic relationships with government entities, regulators, and public institutions in regions where SIMT operates or plans to expand.

The role involves monitoring legislative and regulatory developments affecting the mining and transport sectors, assessing their impact on SIMT, and advising leadership on appropriate responses.

The Government Relations Director will prepare policy briefs, position papers, and communication materials, and coordinate meetings, consultations, and negotiations with public officials and industry associations.

This position also includes developing advocacy strategies, supporting compliance initiatives, and collaborating with internal stakeholders to align business objectives with regulatory requirements and public policy trends.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated expertise in government relations, public policy, or regulatory affairs, ideally within mining, transport, or related industries.
  • Strong skills in stakeholder engagement, negotiation, and relationship management with government officials, regulators, and industry bodies.
  • Proven ability to analyze legislation and regulations, synthesize complex information, and translate findings into clear recommendations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience drafting policy documents, briefs, and strategic presentations.
  • Capacity to work independently in a remote, part-time setting, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines across time zones.
  • Solid understanding of international business environments and cross-border regulatory considerations.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Law, Public Policy, International Relations, or a related field; an advanced degree is an advantage.
  • Prior experience in a director-level or senior advisory role in government, industry associations, or corporate affairs is strongly preferred.
  • High ethical standards, sound judgment, and commitment to non-discriminatory, inclusive practices in all external and internal interactions.
