Stantec is seeking a Geotechnical Engineering Graduate to join our team in Markham, Ontario.

The role of a Geotechnical Engineering Graduate is to work on smaller projects, and/or as a team member on larger projects under close guidance and supervision of senior engineer(s).

You will perform a variety of tasks that will include proposal preparation, data collation/reduction, engineering analysis and reporting, and field work.

The projects that a Geotechnical Engineering Graduate may be assigned to may be broad, varied and diverse in scope.

• Working on a variety of small to large projects in diverse areas such as transportation & infrastructure, power, mining, residential, commercial, and industrial developments.
• Assisting intermediate and senior engineers with engineering analysis and also developing and managing the project scope, budget, staffing and schedule.
• Conducting field work and testing which may include supervision of borehole drilling and test pit excavations, construction site review, laboratory testing, rock anchor testing, slope stability assessments (rock and soil), and installation of geotechnical instrumentation.
• Engineering and design of geotechnical systems including deep and shallow foundations, slope stability, dams, rockfall hazard analysis, soil improvement, and others.
• Preparation of proposals and geotechnical reports.

• An understanding of general concepts of relevant areas of geotechnical engineering and soil mechanics.
• Ability to participate and collaborate in a project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thinking.
• Understanding of geotechnical engineering concepts and ability to effectively communicate ideas to others.
• Proficient in using Microsoft Office Suite. Proficiency in using Microsoft Excel as a tool for data collation, reduction and analysis is an asset.
• Developing cooperative skills in working efficiently within a team.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• A Bachelor’s degree in Geotechnical/Civil Engineering from a recognized university. A Master’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering with specific emphasis on advanced soil mechanics and numerical analysis is an asset.
• Eligible to obtain professional designation with the Professional Engineers Ontario.
• Valid Canadian driver’s license with access to a vehicle.
• Ability to live and work in Canada.
