Geotechnical Engineer (Infrastructure)

Role Overview

What You'll Be Doing

• Supervise and witness ground investigations, ground improvement, engineered fill placement and compaction, and associated verification testing.
• Review contractor method statements, ITPs, material submittals, prequalification packages, and geotechnical design and factual or interpretative reports.
• Verify compaction control and fill quality against RTA General Specification density and air-void criteria.
• Review ground improvement design and execution, including dynamic compaction, vibro techniques, rapid impact compaction, CPT testing, zone load tests, and acceptance criteria.
• Assess geotechnical parameters and foundation-related submissions for MSE retaining walls and cut-and-cover underpass structures.
• Witness and review pile and load testing and confirm compliance with specifications, drawings, and approved procedures.
• Raise and track NCRs, SORs, and comment or response sheets and verify close-out of geotechnical non-conformances.
• Monitor geotechnical work progress and report quality, safety, or compliance issues to the Resident Engineer.
• Coordinate with RTA, Dubai Municipality, DEWA, and other stakeholders on approvals and requirements.
• Attend and minute project meetings and support review of geotechnical elements of interim payment submissions.
• Maintain site records, inspection registers, and geotechnical documentation for reporting and handover.

Required Skills

• Bachelor's degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering.
• At least 12 years of geotechnical engineering experience on major roads and infrastructure projects, including Engineer or consultant-side site supervision.
• Proven Dubai project experience is essential.
• Proven RTA roads or infrastructure experience and working knowledge of the RTA General Specification are essential.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, AutoCAD or Civil 3D, document-management platforms such as Aconex or Unifier, and geotechnical logging software such as gINT.
• Working knowledge of ground investigation, ground improvement, earthworks, engineered fill, MSE walls, and foundation systems.
• Strong capability in geotechnical investigation, bore-log and laboratory data interpretation, and design parameter derivation.
• Competence in reviewing GFR, GIR, method statements, ITPs, and NCRs and enforcing specification compliance.
• Clear technical reporting, disciplined record-keeping, and effective coordination skills.
• Commitment to quality, health and safety, including an ISO 45001 environment, and the Employer's commercial and program interests.

Advantageous Skills

• Working knowledge of PLAXIS or Slope/W is an advantage.
• Familiarity with FIDIC-based contract administration and the Engineer's supervision team is desirable.
