Role overview

The Forward Deploy Engineer works on BlackRock's Data Platform as a Service within the Enterprise Data Platform.

The role combines direct deployment with partner teams and development of reusable platform solutions.

Data product onboarding

  • Embed with partner engineering and data teams to onboard data products from source configuration through production.
  • Define schemas, ownership, SLAs, quality expectations, and governance attributes.
  • Support structured and unstructured data onboarding and troubleshoot failures across infrastructure, pipeline, and data layers.

Platform contribution

  • Develop pipeline templates, configuration generators, schema mapping utilities, acquisition connectors, ingestion templates, and transformation scaffolding.
  • Contribute to DPaaS feature development and framework improvements.

Client enablement

  • Run onboarding sessions, workshops, office hours, and targeted training.
  • Document onboarding patterns, failure modes, and solutions in reusable playbooks.
  • Translate partner requirements into platform-compatible configurations.

AI-assisted onboarding

  • Use AI-assisted coding tools for configuration authoring, pipeline generation, and onboarding automation.
  • Build workflows using schema inference, automated attribute mapping, AI-driven data profiling, MCP, AI agents, and Copilot extensions.

Technology and validation

  • Operate across data pipelines, Azure Data Lake Storage, Snowflake, container orchestration, and Vault.
  • Validate data product correctness and pipeline integrity across raw, staging, and curated data layers.
  • Support testing of new platform capabilities and channel feedback into the product and engineering roadmap.

Required qualifications

  • At least 3 years of data engineering or software engineering experience with production-grade delivery is required.
  • Strong Python proficiency and experience with structured and unstructured data are required.
  • Experience with Azure data services, Snowflake, data pipelines, container orchestration, and AI-assisted development tools is required.
  • A bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience is required.

Preferred qualifications

  • Forward deployment, solutions engineering, financial data platforms, data governance, unstructured data processing, LLM tooling, additional clouds, and CI/CD experience are preferred.

Workplace model

  • Employees are required to work at least four days per week in the office, with flexibility to work from home one day per week.
