About the Club
Mississaugua Golf and Country Club is a private, year-round club with golf, curling, tennis, dining, fitness, and social amenities.
The club serves approximately 1,400 members and hosts restaurant, banquet, wedding, and social events.
Position Summary
The club is seeking a full-time First Cook for its dynamic kitchen team.
The role executes à la carte and banquet services while meeting recipe, food preparation, presentation, quality, and sanitation standards.
Cooking and Service
- Produce roasts, sauces, stocks, vegetables, pastas, grains, cereals, rice, desserts, and butchered meats.
- Prepare hot and cold meals for restaurant, event, and banquet dining.
- Review weekly banquet event orders and organize schedules and task delegation.
- Prepare food for allergy concerns and other special dietary requirements.
- Follow recipes, preparation methods, and plating guidelines.
Kitchen Operations
- Monitor food quality and ensure staff follow recipes and prepare dishes efficiently.
- Cook in various club locations, including on-course food stations.
- Provide input on menu design, content, and daily specials.
- Coach and mentor junior staff.
- Control food costs through storage, standardized recipes, waste control, and FIFO procedures.
- Receive and store products, maintain kitchen areas and equipment, and follow sanitation procedures.
Experience and Qualifications
- 3–4 years of experience leading an upscale restaurant service line is required.
- Experience with menu development, banquet, à la carte, catering, and fast-paced upscale restaurant environments is required.
- Food Safe Certification and knowledge of food safety, health, sanitation, food handling, and WHMIS standards are required.
- Red Seal Certification is an asset, and completion of a proper apprenticeship is preferred.
- Applicants must be able to follow printed recipes and plating specifications.
Physical and Collaboration Requirements
- The role requires clear communication with managers, kitchen staff, and dining room personnel.
- Applicants must be able to reach, bend, stoop, frequently lift up to 50 pounds, and stand for up to 13 hours.
- The role requires organization, flexibility, teamwork, coaching, problem solving, and decision making under pressure.
