Role overview
The Fire Protection Engineer handles installation, inspection, testing, commissioning, preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, and troubleshooting of fire protection and life-safety systems.
Core responsibilities
- Supervise installation and modification of fire alarm, firefighting, fire suppression, and life-safety systems.
- Diagnose alarms, troubles, supervisory signals, equipment failures, and communication issues.
- Maintain fire alarm panels, detection devices, notification appliances, fire pumps, sprinklers, hose reels, hydrants, valves, and suppression systems.
- Test and commission systems under approved procedures and applicable standards.
- Review drawings, cause-and-effect matrices, data sheets, hydraulic calculations, method statements, and technical submittals.
- Conduct site inspections, fire risk assessments, condition assessments, and functional performance tests.
- Prepare inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, testing, commissioning, and corrective-action reports.
