- Develop, implement and maintain fire safety policies and procedures to ensure compliance with local, state and federal regulations
- Supervise and evaluate the performance of firefighters, paramedics and other emergency personnel
- Provide training and development opportunities to improve the skills and knowledge of emergency personnel
- Communicate with other departments, agencies and the public to coordinate fire safety and emergency medical services
- Develop and manage a budget for fire safety operations, equipment and supplies
- Investigate fires to determine their cause and make recommendations for fire prevention
