Role Overview
The Finance Controller is a strategic leadership role reporting to the Managing Director of Risk and Finance.
The role steers the finance department, drives major system initiatives, oversees two direct reports, and maintains a robust internal control environment.
The position supports merchant settlements, financial close, reporting, audits, international subsidiary accounting, treasury, and executive audit liaison activities.
Core Responsibilities
- Advise senior executives, direct financial strategy, and translate complex financial data into business intelligence and strategic plans.
- Maintain financial statement accuracy under IFRS and oversee treasury, cash flow, forecasting, and working capital.
- Oversee international subsidiary reporting, transfer pricing, intercompany settlements, local taxation, and corporate tax compliance.
- Review technical accounting matters and approve memos while integrating new IFRS standards into operations.
Controls, Audit, and Transformation
- Design and continuously evaluate ITGC, ELC, and ICFR control frameworks to protect assets and mitigate financial risk.
- Act as the senior escalation point for internal and external auditors and resolve complex audit findings.
- Sponsor new product and system implementations, automation, continuous improvement, efficiency, and scale initiatives.
Leadership
- Direct, mentor, and develop two finance leaders and architect the controllership team structure.
- Partner with department heads to align financial and operational goals and promote financial discipline.
- Foster a collaborative, high-integrity environment focused on quality, deadlines, cross-training, and development.
Required Qualifications
- CPA designation is required.
- At least 10 years of experience in accounting or financial reporting is required.
- Strong IFRS, technical accounting, international subsidiary, transfer pricing, and internal controls experience is required.
- At least five years of experience managing direct reports in a complex finance environment is required.
- Strong project management, communication, judgment, interpersonal, and problem-solving capabilities are required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Big 4 firm experience is an asset.
- Financial institution experience, especially high-volume merchant settlements, is highly preferred.
- Netsuite experience is an asset.
Compensation
- The base salary range is $170,000 to $205,000.
- The compensation package may include benefits and a competitive incentive program for full-time permanent roles.
