Overview

We are seeking a proactive Investment, Banking and Research Associate capable of assisting the management and finance department with day-to-day banking and due diligence operations.

This role requires an individual with strong marine industry knowledge, understanding of structured finance, loan documentation, capital markets, data research and analytical skills. The successful candidate will act as a key point of communication between lenders, the finance department, and management — overseeing investment performance, assisting with banking requirements, updating lenders with the latest legal documents for compliance and providing timely research reports on the key developments and historical trends in the maritime industry.

1. Investment Analysis and Documentation

  • Monitor company held investment’s balance sheets, cash flows, financial covenants and identify risks and operational gaps involved.
  • Conduct sector and industry analysis to assess business conditions and assess default risk, capital structure, covenants and market positioning.
  • Develop and maintain financial models to forecast investment performance and impact on portfolio.
  • Perform market research across asset classes, including equities, real estate, commodities, and alternative investments.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports and presentations of financial performance, risks, and present it to management and directors.

2. Banking and Treasury Operations

  • Assist with required documentation such as Bareboat charter parties, MOA’s, Guarantees and delivery schedules for fleet financing/re-financing.
  • Maintain financial covenants for each vessel on regular basis and timelines for opportunities to re-finance the assets in the fleet.
  • Maintain regular communication with lenders and leasing houses to provide updates on compliance certificates.

3. Fundraising and Due Diligence Support

  • Maintain Virtual Data Room (VDR) with recent corporate, technical and legal documents for internal and lender review. (MOA, KYC, class and flag certificates)
  • Collect and maintain the “Know Your Customer” information of all entities in the group across jurisdictions required for bank compliance.
  • Co-ordinate with accounts and operations team for change in owners of vessels and payment timelines for vessel delivery and cashflow planning.

4. Reporting and Communication

  • Act as primary contact for routine administration inquiries from financial institutions, Vessel Owners and Brokers.
  • Prepare agendas and minutes for high-level meetings with investment bankers, shipbrokers, leasing houses and legal advisors.
  • Serve as secretary and maintain minutes for board meetings and committee meetings when required.
  • Maintain and regularly update a comprehensive departmental-wise database of key industry contacts, including banking professionals, charterers, shipbrokers, and senior management and advise on effective methods for data collection.

5. Market Research on Shipping Intelligence

  • Maintain shipping intelligence data including historical asset prices, vessel-wise market rates, vessel valuations and target owners for vessel demolitions.
  • Build dashboards and provide customized reports with latest market developments to head of departments on weekly basis.
  • Identify and recommend methods, tools, and processes for collecting, organizing and analysing data.

Candidate Profile

  • ***Preferred Requirements (3-5 years of experience)***
  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Finance, CA or MBA is preferred.
  • 3 – 5 years of relevant experience in Financial Analysis or Banking preferred.
  • Strong Financial and marine industry background with practical experience in maritime finance, structured debt and leasing structures.
  • Ability to analyse company performance, risks involved, financial health and market alignment of existing and new investments.
  • Understanding of process and required documentation based on the current stage of loan/leasing transactions.
  • Familiarity of legal documents required for compliance with lenders, insurers and charterers in maritime industry.
  • Able to utilize advanced Excel features to create complex formulas and/or pivot tables and basic financial models (e.g. projections of costs for products/services).
  • Proficient with ERP software such as Tally or SAP to gather historical data for future projections.
  • Strong analytical, market research skills on maritime data and organization of databases.
  • Capable of working with highly confidential financial and legal information.
