Description: We are seeking a Field Service IT Engineer to support the installation, configuration, and maintenance of networking and communications equipment at government customer sites. This role requires a hands-on technical professional who is comfortable traveling to customer locations, working in highly sensitive operational environments, and performing both IT/networking tasks and light general contracting work required to complete field installations. The ideal candidate has experience installing Ethernet and fiber-based networking infrastructure, mounting and securing equipment, building or modifying enclosures, performing basic electrical work, and completing site-ready installations in accordance with customer requirements, safety standards, and project timelines. Responsibilities:
Travel to government customer sites to install, configure, test, and troubleshoot networking and communications equipment.
Install and terminate Ethernet and fiber optic cabling, including patch panels, switches, routers, media converters, transceivers, and related network infrastructure.
Perform physical installation tasks including equipment mounting, rack and enclosure setup, cable routing, labeling, grounding, and securing hardware.
Conduct light general contracting work as needed to support installations, including basic electrical work, drywall modification or repair, conduit placement, enclosure creation, and wall or ceiling penetrations.
Build, modify, or install protective enclosures, cabinets, racks, and mounting solutions for network and communications equipment.
Verify connectivity and performance of Ethernet and fiber communication links using appropriate test equipment and troubleshooting methods.
Support network equipment configuration, including IP addressing, VLANs, routing basics, switchport configuration, and device validation.
Read and interpret site drawings, network diagrams, wiring diagrams, installation plans, and technical documentation.
Experience:
Experience as a Field Service Engineer, Network Technician, Low Voltage Technician, Systems Installer, IT Infrastructure Technician, or similar hands-on technical role.
Strong knowledge of Ethernet networking, including copper cabling, RJ45 termination, patch panels, switches, routers, IP addressing, VLANs, and basic network troubleshooting.

You’ll lead SIXGEN’s efforts to
Identify access points and plans to support network collection based on requirements.
Develop, plan, and execute collection efforts.
Stay on the leading edge of new collection technologies and methods.
You’ll work closely with end-users to identify requirements, conceptualize capabilities, and drive collection efforts.
Preferred skills include:
Network design
General tradesman skills (drywall, electrical, HVAC, plumbing)
Understanding of construction sites and construction projects
