Position Overview
The Field Operations Morning Phlebotomy Team Lead is an office-based leadership position responsible for overseeing and supporting field-based Phlebotomy team members. This role ensures efficient day-to-day operations, appropriate staffing and scheduling, timely specimen delivery, compliance, and exceptional client service.
The Morning Team Lead serves as the primary point of contact for field staff beginning at 4:00 AM and plays a critical role in ensuring uninterrupted operations throughout the morning.
Field Operations & Staff Management
Oversee the daily activities and operational needs of field-based Phlebotomy staff.
Serve as the first point of contact for field staff beginning at 4:00 AM .
Ensure all assigned active clients are scheduled and covered properly, compliantly, and in a timely manner.
Assign Phlebotomy staff to client locations and monitor staff performance as needed.
Adjust daily schedules to accommodate call-outs, absences, and unexpected staffing changes while maintaining uninterrupted client service.
Develop and maintain contingency plans for daily operations.
Supervise the House Calls team and monitor house-call scheduling and coverage.
Provide operational support and assistance wherever needed to maintain service levels.
Client & Facility Support
Ensure all active clients receive timely, compliant, and properly staffed services.
Communicate proactively with client leadership regarding service delays, staffing issues, or interruptions.
Work to resolve operational concerns quickly to minimize any impact on client service.
Specimen Management & Laboratory Operations
Monitor specimen collection and transportation to ensure all specimens arrive at the laboratory promptly and support the goal of having results available by 2:00 PM .
Generate weekly reports tracking: On-time client service Specimen arrival times Service delays or interruptions Other operational performance metrics as needed

Assist the Lab Accessioning Team with receiving and labeling activities as needed.
Identify and escalate any issues that could affect timely specimen processing.
Compliance, Attendance & Performance
Ensure all Phlebotomy staff maintain required credentials and certifications.
Ensure staff complete required annual competency testing .
Monitor T-Sheets for attendance, compliance, accuracy, and payroll-related information, including mileage entries.
Identify attendance, documentation, or performance concerns and follow up appropriately.
Support retraining and corrective actions when operational or performance issues are identified.
Maintain accurate records and documentation in accordance with company and regulatory requirements.
Staffing, Recruiting & Training
Collaborate with the Field Operations Manager to identify and address recruiting and hiring needs.
Assist with staffing projections and identify potential coverage gaps before they impact client service.
Support the onboarding and orientation process for new field staff.
Assist with training, competency, and retraining activities as needed.
Supplies & Inventory Management
Manage Phlebotomy supplies, including storage, organization, distribution, and reordering.
Maintain appropriate inventory levels to ensure staff and clients have the supplies necessary to perform services.
Monitor supply usage and proactively address potential shortages.
Ensure the supply area remains organized, accessible, and properly stocked.
Other Responsibilities
- Provide support during critical operational situations and high-volume periods.
- Work collaboratively with Field Operations, Laboratory, Dispatch, and other departments to maintain efficient operations.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications & Skills
- Strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience in Phlebotomy operations, field services, healthcare logistics, or a related environment.
- Knowledge of Phlebotomy workflows, specimen handling, and laboratory processes.
- Experience with staff scheduling, coverage planning, and operational coordination.
- Proficiency with scheduling, timekeeping, laboratory, and operational management systems.
- Ability to monitor multiple priorities and make timely decisions in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and follow-through.
- Ability to communicate effectively with field staff, clients, leadership, and laboratory personnel.
- Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Strong understanding of confidentiality, compliance, and professional standards in a healthcare environment.
- Ability to respond calmly and effectively to call-outs, staffing shortages, service interruptions, and other time-sensitive operational issues.
- Willingness to provide hands-on operational support when needed.
