Field Engineer Position

The Field Engineer will support the development and deployment of a laser-based system.

This role requires hands-on prototyping, electronics development, and software integration for real-time sensing and control.

The candidate should have strong field experience, be comfortable working in outdoor environments, and be capable of handling sensor integration and electronic systems troubleshooting on-site.

The engineer will work closely with a multidisciplinary research team to bring the technology from the lab to field-tested implementation.

Major Responsibilities – include but are not limited to: Design, prototype, and test laser-based systems for field use.

Conduct field deployments including sensor installation, calibration, and troubleshooting.

Write and implement Python-based scripts for sensor control, data acquisition, and visualization.

Assist with embedded system development.

Document design iterations, field tests, and system behavior in comprehensive reports.

Ensure compliance with relevant safety standards and engineering protocols for field environments.

Collaborate with other engineers and researchers to iterate hardware and software solutions based on real-world testing.

Interface with suppliers or internal teams to source necessary components and tools.

Participate in meetings, design reviews, and contribute to technical discussions.

Closely collaborate with our industrial partners and stakeholders to align technical deliverables with end-use needs, gather operational feedback, and ensure successful integration of system components.

Competencies Proven ability to work independently in remote or semi-structured field environments.

Good hands-on experience in prototyping and testing electro-mechanical systems.

Proficiency in Python and basic embedded programming.

Expertise in electronics and automation.

Good technical reporting and documentation skills.

Good communication skills and team spirit; ability to collaborate with researchers and technical staff.

Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. 3+ years of relevant work experience in prototyping or/and field deployment.

Practical knowledge of laser-based sensors is a strong plus.

Proficiency in Python, C++ and Matlab programming.
