Extended Term Substitute - Reading Specialist (Grades 4-6 )

Assignment Dates: This assignment is anticipated to begin on September 3, 2026 and run approximately 4-6 weeks.

• To function as a reading teacher for a portion of the school day, performing duties to include consultation regarding students who are not meeting grade level expectations in the area of communication arts, support for students who are not meeting grade level expectations in communication arts, and staff development relative to the teaching of literacy at this level.
• Ability to work cooperatively with others.
• Maturity and the ability to deal effectively with students and staff.
• Demonstrates sensitivity to the needs of students of varying age levels,diverse cultures, and socio-economic backgrounds.
• Self-motivated with the ability to work independently within the limits of assigned responsibilities.
• Understands the importance of and can practice confidentiality.
• Demonstrates knowledge of basic academic skills (reading, math, writing, spelling, and appropriate language usage.)
• Adheres to specific rules and regulations as they apply to the discipline procedures of the building.
• Plan for and carry out remedial instructional interventions to address the identified needs of elementary and intermediate school students.
• Coordinate, collaborate, train, and assist the teaching staff in meeting the specific instructional needs of identified students who are not meeting grade level expectations in communication arts.
• Assess and/or analyze initial and ongoing individual student needs for those students identified as not meeting grade level expectations in communication arts.
• Monitor the progress of each assigned pupil, collaborate with the regular classroom teacher regarding appropriate teaching techniques aimed at maximizing learning, and apply these techniques when working with students, if appropriate.
