Job Responsibilities include (but may not be limited to)

  • Review and understand project plans, specifications, and reference documents
  • Perform accurate, thorough, and timely quantity takeoffs from project plans and specifications, producing detailed, final estimates
  • Manage multiple projects concurrently with ability to multi-task
  • Submit pre-bid RFI’s to owner/engineer as needed
  • Assess site exposures/construction risks and appropriately analyze cost
  • Identify and communicate constructability issues, and value-engineering alternatives
  • Contract subcontractors and material suppliers
  • Review projects and estimates with Vice President of Estimating and other staff
  • Attend Pre-Bid meetings
  • Solicit new/existing vendors and subcontractors
  • Identify competing parties
  • Supervise, train, and develop estimating staff
  • Other duties upon request

Necessary Skills and Qualifications

  • B.S. in Construction Management, Engineering, or equivalent work experience
  • Knowledgeable in public works heavy civil construction, with an emphasis on construction and estimation of structures
  • Must be able to operate as a “stand alone” estimator able to handle complete projects if required
  • Proficient in HCSS HeavyBid and Bluebeam Revu
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications
  • Effective communication, both verbal and written
  • Attention to detail and excellent organizational skills
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Resourceful and diligent in seeking solutions to problems and adapting to new situations
  • Seven plus (7+) years relevant work experience
  • Current or past experience in San Francisco Bay Area market a plus
