Job Overview

  • The Highfield Company is supporting a leading construction and infrastructure contractor in the search for an experienced Estimator to join their growing team in the Caribbean.
  • The successful candidate will play a key role in preparing competitive tenders and cost estimates for civil engineering, marine infrastructure, airport developments, and other major infrastructure schemes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed cost estimates and tender submissions for civil engineering and infrastructure projects.
  • Analyse drawings, specifications, contract documents, and tender requirements.
  • Obtain and evaluate quotations from suppliers, subcontractors, and specialist contractors.
  • Develop pricing strategies and identify value engineering opportunities.
  • Conduct quantity take offs and cost analysis.
  • Assess project risks and opportunities during the tender stage.
  • Liaise with clients, consultants, suppliers, and internal stakeholders throughout the bid process.
  • Support bid presentations and tender clarification meetings.
  • Maintain and develop estimating databases, cost benchmarks, and market intelligence.
  • Ensure all submissions are completed in line with company procedures and client requirements.

Requirements

  • Previous experience in an Estimator position within the construction or civil engineering sector.
  • Strong background in infrastructure projects such as highways, bridges, marine works, airports, utilities, ports, or other large scale civil engineering schemes.
  • Proven experience preparing successful tenders for complex construction projects.
  • Strong understanding of construction methodologies, contracts, and procurement routes.
  • Excellent commercial awareness and cost planning skills.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and contract documentation.
  • Proficiency in estimating software and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong analytical, organisational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience working on marine infrastructure, coastal protection, port developments, or airport projects.
  • Exposure to international projects or working within island environments.
  • Degree qualified in Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
  • Membership of a relevant professional body would be advantageous.
