This is skilled mechanical repair work performing a wide variety of duties associated with the maintenance of diesel, gasoline, hydraulic and electrical systems on cars, pickups, trucks, tractors, graders, bulldozers, backhoes, and other County equipment.
Employees are required to have a considerable command of equipment systems and parts and are expected to independently inspect, diagnose, and repair mechanical problems using electrical and mechanical testing equipment, hand tools, and a variety of power tools.
Employees of this class will have a considerable amount of contact with the operators of the equipment to determine the nature and extent of mechanical problems to be repaired.
Employees of this class are responsible for all mechanical repairs on assigned equipment.
Work is normally performed at the County Shop, however, employees of this class may be required to work in adverse weather conditions to repair equipment unable to return to the shop for service.
In addition, work may, at times require the repair of equipment at the County Landfill site, requiring exposure to an unfavorable, odorous environment.
Supervision is not a normal responsibility of positions in this class.
Employees may, however, at times, direct the work of other County Personnel assigned to assist in the shop.
Work is performed under the immediate supervision of the Shop Foreman who reviews work by the quality and timeliness of repairs and by the performance of equipment serviced.

Four (4) years of mechanical work experience in the repair of gas and diesel, automotive, truck and road construction, maintenance vehicles and equipment.
Possession of a valid Class “A” Commercial Driver’s License is preferred.
Substituting, on a month for month basis, any combination of experience, education and training which would provide the level of knowledge and ability required.
Possession of, or ability to obtain Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certification to repair brakes for automotive (cars and pickups). (Mandatory, one year from date of starting employment with Asotin County).
Possession of, or ability to obtain ASE Certification to repair steering and suspension systems in automotive (cars and Pickups). (Mandatory, one year from date of starting employment with Asotin County).
Possession of, or ability to obtain ASE Certification to repair brakes in light and heavy duty trucks. (Mandatory, one year from date of starting employment with Asotin County).
Possession of, or the ability to obtain ASE Certification to repair steering and suspension systems in light and heavy duty trucks. (Mandatory, one year from date of starting employment with Asotin County).
Provides local government services and administration for Asotin County residents.
