Schedule and Conditions

  • The standard work schedule is Monday through Friday.
  • The role is based in an office environment and requires some degree of PPE, including possible safety glasses, gowning, gloves, lab coat, and ear plugs.

Position Summary

The EHS Manager owns environmental, health, safety, and process-safety management for the Heysham site.

The role develops and implements the site's EHS system and framework and ensures compliance with legislation, company procedures, group initiatives, and industry standards.

The position acts as the site contact for regulatory authorities and provides detailed EHS reporting for local and divisional leadership.

The role forms part of the Senior Leadership Team.

Environmental Health and Safety

  • Establish and maintain EHS management systems and programs for the site.
  • Lead site EHS management and ensure regulatory, corporate, and industry-standard compliance.
  • Arrange regulatory visits, manage resulting actions, and complete permitting and COMAH requirements.
  • Support operational managers with risk assessments, training, inspections, audits, and risk-control programs.
  • Develop metrics, analyze site data, and report progress to site management and corporate EHS leadership.
  • Lead behavioural safety activities and influence the site's EHS culture.
  • Provide technical support on hazardous materials and waste, industrial hygiene, industrial safety, ergonomics, and process safety.
  • Investigate injuries, incidents, and near misses and support corrective and preventive actions.
  • Deliver EHS communications through training, presentations, toolbox talks, newsletters, and meetings.
  • Manage the EHS budget and lead sustainability and continuous-improvement initiatives.

Essentials and Qualifications

  • Bring extensive hands-on EHS experience in chemical, oil, petrochemical, pharmaceutical, chemical waste, or FMCG industries.
  • Have regulatory experience with lower-tier COMAH, IPPC, waste-management licensed sites, or equivalent environments.
  • Have a solid understanding of ISO 14001 EMS and experience leading an ISO 14001 EMS program.
  • Hold a bachelor's degree in occupational safety and health, environmental science, risk management, or a related field.
  • Hold a NEBOSH National Diploma or General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety.
  • Be a member of IOSH and IEMA at an accepted professional membership level.
  • Have experience in EHS management systems, training, presentations, accident investigation, root cause analysis, project management, behavioural safety, and human factors.
  • Understand HSE and Environment Agency guidance and approved codes of practice.

Required Capabilities

  • Demonstrate validated teamwork, interpersonal, communication, time-management, training, presentation, and influencing skills.
  • Support regulatory compliance, risk management, hazardous materials and waste controls, industrial hygiene, industrial safety, ergonomics, and process safety.
  • Stay informed about new legislation and industry trends and incorporate relevant priorities into EHS roadmaps.

Site Context

  • The role manages EHS and process-safety activities for the Heysham site and works with site, regional, corporate, and regulatory stakeholders.
