Position Expectations

Executes, supervises and documents field aspects of environmental monitoring, site assessment, remediation and construction activities primarily at the base. Duties will include but are not limited to:

Working knowledge of landfill operations.

Completing land use control inspections for various components of the base (i.e. landfills, dump sites, test sites, creeks).

Applying mechanical knowledge and experience to troubleshoot and maintain equipment.

Using precision measuring equipment and various hand and power tools.

Documenting and supervising excavation, well-drilling, and various trade contractors.

Performing general labor and construction duties based on the project requirements.

Working with water wells, piping and pumps.

Conducting groundwater monitoring well surveys and maintenance.

Maintaining equipment calibration logs.

Recording field notes to the specific task performed at each site location.

Handling general warehouse and maintenance duties.

Performing source water, sludge and groundwater purging, monitoring or sampling activities via low flow sampling techniques.

Performing composite soil sampling.

Following GES engineering, construction, and O&M policies and procedures.

Adhering to GES Health & Safety Standards in all field-related activities.

Skills and Requirements

  • A High School diploma or equivalent.
  • 0-2+ years of related fieldwork experience. Mechanical aptitude is required.
  • Landfill experience is preferred.
  • Strong technical and mechanical abilities.
  • Common Access Card (CAC) or prior Aberdeen Proving Ground (APG) environmental support is a plus.
  • OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER certification is a plus. OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER training will be provided if this certification is not yet earned. This certification is required to perform the duties of this position.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule to support project needs and be agreeable to outdoor work.
  • Weekend availability may be required occasionally, including daytime and/or overnight work.
  • Must have a strong work ethic and be detail oriented and a team player.
