Position Responsibilities, Accountabilities and Job Duties

• Complete environmental monitoring, sampling, inspections, field measurements, equipment checks, and environmental observations in accordance with permits, approvals, management plans, SOPs, and site procedures.
• Lead assigned environmental program areas, which may include hazardous waste, waste management, wildlife management, spill response, environmental inspections, water monitoring, sampling programs, or other site-specific programs.
• Assist Environmental Technicians with planning and prep for field activities, including equipment, bottles, preservatives, labels, chain-of-custody forms, field sheets, maps, access requirements, and safe work planning.
• Provide field-level guidance to Environmental Technicians, Monitors, and Students to support safe, consistent, and accurate completion of assigned work.
• Complete first-level QA/QC of assigned program data, including review of laboratory reports, field results, inspection findings, trends, unusual results, missing information, and required follow-up.
• Analyze and summarize assigned program data, including water quality results, inspection findings, waste records, wildlife observations, incident trends, and other environmental information.
• Maintain and improve assigned program files, trackers, inspection logs, action registers, environmental databases, training programs and controlled records.
• Support preparation of regulatory reporting inputs, internal summaries, compliance updates, incident documentation, technical reports, and environmental performance information.
• Participate in environmental incident response and follow-up, including spills, wildlife interactions, missed samples, unusual field conditions, waste issues, corrective actions, and close-out documentation.
• Coordinate with and provide necessary training to site departments, contractors, consultants, laboratories, and suppliers on assigned environmental tasks and program needs.
• Provide environmental input and field oversight for contractor work, maintenance work, construction activities, operational changes, or other site activities as assigned.
• Support development and improvement of SOPs, SWPs, forms, templates, checklists, training materials, and environmental governance documents.
• Escalate potential exceedances, missed regulatory samples, spills, unusual results, unsafe conditions, data quality concerns, or higher-risk issues to the Environmental Coordinator, Environmental Lead, or Environment Manager as appropriate.
• Promote environmental stewardship, compliance awareness, safe work practices, and consistent field standards across the site through training, coaching, inspections, field interactions, and routine communication with site personnel.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience

• Post-secondary education in environmental science, environmental technology, biology, chemistry, natural resources, environmental engineering, or related field.
• Experience in environmental monitoring, field sampling, inspections, environmental compliance, waste management, water monitoring, or environmental program delivery.
• Experience in mining, industrial operations, consulting, or a remote site environment is considered an asset.
• Experience with environmental sampling procedures, field meters, chain-of-custody forms, laboratory coordination, environmental inspections, environmental databases, or regulatory reporting inputs is considered an asset.
• Experience supporting or guiding junior staff, students, contractors, or field crews is considered an asset.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• Professional designation or eligibility for designation is considered an asset.

Working Conditions / Schedule

• Location: Eagle River Mine
• Shift / Hours of Work: 12-hours
• Schedule / Rotation: 14 days on, 14 days off
• Type of Hire: Permanent, Full-Time
