Job requirements
• Associate’s degree (or equivalent experience) in Engineering Technology, Mechanical Technology, Biomedical Technology, or related field
• 2+ years of hands-on experience in an engineering lab or prototyping environment
• Experience with basic fabrication tools (hand tools, drill press, mill, lathe, 3D printers, etc.)
• Ability to read engineering drawings and electrical schematics
• Experience with Excel or similar tools for data recording and basic analysis
• Strong attention to detail and organization
• Clear documentation and communication skills
• Experience working within a regulated design environment and applying structured design and documentation practices (e.g., ISO 13485, MDR, AS9100, or similar)
• Experience with CAD and solid modeling (SolidWorks or equivalent)
• Familiarity with fluid systems, pumps, sensors, or optical systems
• Experience supporting design verification or validation testing
Job responsibilities
• Manage and oversee the prototyping function of the engineering R&D lab (3D printing, laser cutting, milling machine, band saw, and various hand tools)
• Build and assemble mechanical and electrical prototypes, fixtures, and test setups based on engineering drawings, schematics, and verbal direction
• Collaborate with engineering team to modify and rework prototypes based on design feedback
• Maintain a safe and organized prototyping workspace
• Assist with development of test methods, including defining the test setup, instrumentation, data collection approach, and drafting/revising test protocols.
• Ensure clear, structured documentation aligned with internal quality standards
• Execute engineering tests according to approved protocols; record, organize, and summarize test data
• Track equipment status, including calibration, maintenance, and availability
• Coordinate with external vendors for calibration, repairs, and serving of equipment as required.
• Assist with equipment logs, labeling, and documentation systems
• Procure lab supplies, components, and consumables in support of engineering activities; maintain inventory of commonly used materials and ensure adequate stock levels
• Support audits and inspections by maintaining accurate records
