The role and impact
Lead a cultural renewal and technological transition for a distributed engineering team.
Serve as the founding leader for Xero's new Vancouver engineering hub.
Improve planning, estimation, communication, delivery predictability, and technical quality.
Team and technical focus
- Lead a team of nine engineers, including one lead, five senior engineers, and three regular developers.
- Support migration from Microsoft SQL Server to Aurora PostgreSQL and DynamoDB.
- Construct and scale internal compliance and observability tools for decentralized database ownership.
- Use AI technologies to provide intelligent database insights to product teams.
- Establish team processes, improve sprint estimation, and build a collaborative culture.
- Resolve critical dependencies and protect the team from external pressures.
What Xero is looking for
- Strong systems design and scaling background, ideally in high-scale cloud, platform, or monitoring organizations.
- Aptitude for AI tooling and interest in modern technology trends.
- Inclusive leadership, stakeholder management, and predictable delivery communication.
- Technical depth to audit complex work and maintain system health without micromanaging.
