The company operates at the intersection of consumer recreation products and enterprise platforms for recreation organizations.

About the Role

The Platform team supports payments and finance, systems infrastructure, and developer experience and quality assurance.

The manager will lead 4–6 engineers and help scale the organization as Rec enters new markets and processes more partner revenue.

The role combines technical credibility, people leadership, hands-on code involvement, and product partnership.

Team Leadership

  • Manage 4–6 engineers, run one-to-ones, provide performance feedback, and invest in career development.
  • Run the hiring loop and recruit engineers who raise the team’s standards.
  • Build a Platform culture where reliability, quality, and ownership are core values.

Technical Direction

  • Set technical standards through code reviews and architecture decisions.
  • Review code, triage bugs, and fix issues where appropriate.
  • Own database scaling, payment-flow reliability, and reduced friction for engineers using the Platform foundation.
  • Use AI tools fluently across the workflow.

Execution and Roadmap

  • Partner with Product to translate business priorities, market expansion, partner onboarding, and compliance needs into sequenced engineering work.
  • Own sprint execution, surface blockers early, and ensure commitments are achievable.
  • Drive launch readiness through load testing, capacity planning, and go/no-go decisions.

Who You Are

  • At least 5 years of software engineering experience, including at least 4 years managing engineering teams.
  • Experience or interest in building payments systems.
  • AI fluency is non-negotiable.
  • Experience managing strong engineers, hiring engineers, making roadmap tradeoffs, and communicating clearly.
  • Experience with payments infrastructure, platform reliability, or developer tooling is a plus.

Technology Stack

  • Frontend technologies include Next.js, Vercel, React, and TypeScript.
  • Backend technologies include Node.js, Koa, Objection.js, and PostgreSQL.
  • Infrastructure and operations technologies include AWS, Temporal, Twilio, and Stripe.
  • AI and developer tools include Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, or equivalent tools.

Work Location

  • The role is based in San Francisco and is in-office most days at the downtown San Francisco office.

Pay and Benefits

  • The listed pay range is $190K–$220K with equity offers.
  • Benefits include flexible paid time off, health, dental, vision, and 401(k).
