Role Overview

The Engineering Manager oversees technical design, engineering assurance, and technical risk management across civil and station projects.

The role integrates delivery across Civil, Station, Track, and Railway Systems Project Delivery Teams to support corridor-level goals.

The manager leads a best-for-program approach, design reviews, assurance procedures, interface resolution, and schedule analysis.

Project Management Duties

  • Engage proactively with Project Delivery Teams, clients, sponsors, and other stakeholders.
  • Coordinate with Metrolinx sectors to align work with common rail corridor goals.
  • Manage stakeholder engagement across asset management, maintenance, safety, operations, construction, and access control.
  • Support design, construction, and commissioning submissions to review and safety assurance panels.

Technical Duties

  • Identify technical and design hazards and risks and implement engineering assurance systems and procedures.
  • Manage CMREA requirements and undertake design reviews for scope, process, and deliverable compliance.
  • Lead integrated design reviews and interface discussions between Project Delivery Teams.
  • Oversee design risk management, problem solving, issue resolution, and proposals for innovative construction techniques.
  • Ensure discipline designs meet standards and schedule, cost, safety, and quality requirements.

Administrative Duties

  • Prepare project management plans, execution plans, and deployment strategies.
  • Document actions, decisions, and follow-up items from project meetings.
  • Review Primavera P6 schedules and analyze design and construction baseline activities for anomalies.

Qualifications

  • A university degree or equivalent in a related engineering field is required.
  • The position requires at least 8 years of engineering experience.
  • The position requires at least 5 years of experience on multidisciplinary rail transit projects.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, verbal communication, and written communication skills are required.
  • The candidate must be willing and able to travel locally and attend project sites occasionally.
  • The candidate must be based in or open to relocating to the Greater Toronto Area.

Technical Competencies

  • Knowledge of engineering management, risk evaluation, assurance assessments, budget and schedule development, and performance reporting is required.
  • Knowledge of railway systems engineering, systems safety, engineering requirements, and whole-life cost modeling is required.
  • Knowledge of applicable rail, legal, regulatory, building code, contract, and environmental standards is required.
  • Technical delivery experience in civil and structural engineering projects is required.

Workplace

  • The role is hybrid, with in-office presence in Downtown Toronto three to five days per week.
  • Local travel and occasional attendance at project sites may be required.
