Nova Scotia Power’s 3-year rotational Engineer-in-Training program is designed to develop technical and leadership skills, preparing participants to become future technical and people leaders who help shape the future of our company and the service we provide our customers.

Throughout this three-year program, EITs will continue to develop their knowledge base by working with a variety of teams across the business, including the operational areas of Power Production.

Upon completion of the program, you will have fulfilled 36 months of engineering experience required toward obtaining your Professional Engineer (P.Eng) designation.

As an EIT in Power Production , you may work across a diverse portfolio of generating assets, including thermal generating stations in Lingan, Point Aconi, Point Tupper, Trenton, and Tufts Cove, as well as combustion turbine, hydroelectric, wind, and battery energy storage facilities located throughout Nova Scotia.

Through rotational assignments, you will gain experience supporting the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of power generation assets.

Opportunities may include engineering, maintenance, asset management, project management, and continuous improvement roles, where you will contribute to projects and initiatives that improve performance, reliability, and operational efficiency across our generation fleet.

In this role you will either work out of the Halifax Regional Municipality, Trenton or Cape Breton with some travel to other areas of the province as required.

We are currently looking to fill three (3) Engineer-In-Training positions as part of our EIT Rotational Program for Power Production to start work in June 2027 .

• Prepare plans, designs, calculations, cost estimates, and bills of materials for a variety of engineering projects.
• Complete tasks in accordance with established codes, standards, engineering practices, drawings, and specifications.
• Perform routine technical surveys, inspections, and assessments.
• Support design, maintenance, and improvement of systems related to the generation of electricity.
• Contribute to monitoring and improving system performance and reliability.

• Participate in rotational assignments across a variety of roles within Power Production (i.e. Thermal Generation, Hydro and Wind, Project Management and Construction).
• Gain experience in both office and field-based engineering work.
• Work alongside engineers and technical staff supporting electricity generation.
• Contribute to projects involving system planning, risk mitigation, and project tracking.
• Participate in professional development activities, including semi-annual learning sessions and mentorship opportunities.

• Support operational activities related to generation of electricity for our customers
• Respond to storm events and participate in power restoration efforts as required.
• Travel as necessary to support operational and project requirements.

• Adhere to all Occupational Health and Safety rules and regulations.
• Promote and ensure personal safety and the safety of co-workers.
• Comply with organizational policies, including safety-sensitive requirements.
• Support environmental performance in alignment with environmental management system processes and initiatives.

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Civil, Chemical and Electrical) with graduation aligned to program start timing.
• Registered member or eligible for membership with Engineers Nova Scotia.
• An equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant experience may be considered.
