Role Overview

Qualifications and Experience

• B.E. or B.Tech. in Electrical Engineering.
• Requires 7–12 years of relevant experience in protection relay programming, testing, commissioning, and protection or control systems.
• Predominant experience is required with MV switchgear, control and relay panels, and electrical protection systems.

Protection and Relay Expertise

• Configure, test, commission, and troubleshoot ABB, Siemens, Schneider, or equivalent protection relays.
• Work with ABB Relion, Siemens SIPROTEC, Schneider Easergy/SEPAM, or equivalent platforms.
• Apply overcurrent, earth fault, directional, voltage, frequency, transformer, motor, and busbar protection schemes.
• Interpret single-line diagrams, protection and control schematics, wiring diagrams, and protection philosophies.
• Perform secondary injection, functional, trip, interlock, and end-to-end protection testing.
• Experience with OMICRON or equivalent relay test equipment is highly preferred.

Communication and Networking

• Work with Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP/IP, Profibus, Profinet, IEC 61850, and industrial Ethernet.
• Understand IEC 61850 architecture, including IEDs, Station Bus, Process Bus, GOOSE, MMS, and SCL configuration.
• Configure and troubleshoot communication mapping, data points, alarms, status, commands, measurements, events, and protection signals.
• Understand network switches, VLANs, IP addressing, gateways, network redundancy, and basic network diagnostics.
• Troubleshoot the complete communication chain from relay or IED through network infrastructure, PLC or RTU, SCADA or EPMS, and higher-level systems.

System Integration and Testing

• Integrate protection relays with PLC, RTU, SCADA, EPMS, BMS, and other supervisory control systems.
• Review communication architecture drawings, network topologies, I/O lists, signal lists, communication matrices, and cause-and-effect diagrams.
• Perform FAT, SAT, commissioning, site testing, and end-to-end communication testing.
• Verify commands, status, alarms, trips, measurements, events, and interlocks.
• Verify relay settings against approved protection coordination studies.
• Prepare and review relay setting files, test procedures, test reports, commissioning reports, and protection documentation.
