The Design Engineer I performs structural analysis and design under the direction of experienced engineers and Professional Engineers. Responsibilities include supporting the design of new telecommunications structures and foundations, evaluating existing structures for revised loading, developing structural modifications, preparing engineering calculations and reports, and developing tools to improve engineering processes.
The position will gain exposure to structural steel, concrete, foundations, connections, telecommunications equipment and attachments, tower modifications, manufacturing considerations, and field applications.
Essential Duties
· Support the structural analysis and design of macro telecommunications towers, including self-supporting lattice towers, guyed towers, monopoles, and related structural components.
· Design new macro towers and structural components using established engineering methods, procedures, and design criteria.
· Design tower foundations based on available geotechnical and soil information.
· Analyze existing towers and foundations for revised antenna, equipment, and other applicable loading.
· Assist in determining structural capacity and identifying required tower modifications or reinforcements.
· Apply structural engineering principles related to steel, concrete, foundations, soils, load paths, stability, and structural behavior.
· Perform engineering calculations and provide supporting calculations to verify computer-generated analysis results when appropriate.
· Prepare engineering calculations, reports, drawings, and other technical documentation for review by a Professional Engineer, as applicable.
· Apply applicable building codes, telecommunications standards, and company engineering criteria to assigned projects.
· Assist with the design and analysis of tower members, connections, foundations, and structural modifications.
· Support the evaluation of existing tower conditions, structural capacity, and proposed loading changes.

· Provide engineering information and technical support to other departments as directed.
· Work closely with experienced engineers and Professional Engineers to develop engineering knowledge and technical judgment.
· Maintain knowledge of applicable structural codes, telecommunications standards, and engineering practices.
· Perform other duties as needed or assigned.
Position Requirements
Education & Certifications
· Bachelor's degree in Structural, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
· Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification is preferred or the ability to obtain certification.
Experience
· 0 to 2 years of structural engineering experience, including internship, co-op, or Engineer-in-Training experience.
· Experience with structural steel, concrete, foundations, or telecommunications towers is preferred but not required.
· Experience with structural analysis software is a plus.
Skills & Abilities
· Fundamental understanding of structural engineering principles, including load paths, stability, steel behavior, concrete, and foundations.
· Ability and desire to learn telecommunications tower design standards and engineering procedures.
· Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical information.
· Strong analytical, problem-solving, and attention-to-detail skills.
· Ability to apply established engineering methods and procedures to assigned work.
· Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
· Team player, self-starter, results-oriented, and organized.
· Ability to manage multiple assignments and complete work within established schedules.
· Proficient working knowledge of Microsoft Office products, particularly Excel.
· Ability to develop sound engineering judgment through technical training, mentoring, and experience.
Physical Requirements

· Position works primarily in an office environment; however, occasionally required to travel to customer and vendor locations
· Ability to use hand tools for light assembly/modification of test and prototype articles for third party or in-house lab work.

· Regularly required to use hands to work on the computer, finger, handle, or grasp, reach with hands and arms
· Must have the ability to concentrate on tasks for long periods of time and be able to observe and receive information from all relevant sources
· Frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
· Distant Vision: must be 20/40 corrected or uncorrected bilaterally
· Approximately 10% travel is required.
