The Opportunity
Support vessel safety and operations as an Engine Room Assistant reporting to the 1st Engineer.
Work onboard vessels in a role focused on machinery monitoring, maintenance support, housekeeping, and safety.
Machinery Monitoring
- Monitor oil and water levels, temperatures, pressures, engines, gear boxes, compressors, winches, boilers, and pumps.
- Handle testing chemicals, relieve the watch, complete rounds, and communicate with ship officers and ticketing staff by radio or in person.
Housekeeping and Maintenance
- Clean machinery, bilges, and engine-room spaces; prepare and paint equipment areas; remove garbage; and polish brass fixtures.
- Assist with oil and filter changes, engine adjustments, steering gear checks, leg alignments, engine starts, oil sampling, overhauls, and refits.
Daily Engine-Room Work
- Take fuel soundings, pump dirty oil tanks, assist with receiving fuel, check void spaces, and clean oil strainers.
