  • The stated level is mid-level.

Engineering Responsibilities

  • Design and develop embedded firmware for microcontrollers, processors, and intelligent electronic devices.
  • Translate product and system requirements into firmware specifications and technical designs.
  • Develop low-level firmware and hardware abstraction layers for embedded platforms.
  • Program and optimize embedded applications using C, C++, and other suitable languages.
  • Develop peripheral drivers for sensors, displays, memory devices, communication modules, and other hardware.
  • Integrate firmware with hardware and validate system-level functionality.
  • Troubleshoot hardware and firmware integration issues with hardware engineers.
  • Implement wired and wireless communication interfaces, including I2C, SPI, UART, CAN, USB, and Ethernet where applicable.
  • Develop real-time applications using RTOS environments and scheduling and synchronization techniques.
  • Configure microcontroller peripherals, timers, interrupts, DMA, GPIO, ADC, PWM, and communication interfaces.
  • Debug firmware and isolate faults using JTAG, SWD, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and debugging tools.
  • Analyze and optimize performance, memory usage, power consumption, response times, reliability, and resource utilization.

Testing and Delivery

  • Develop and execute unit, integration, functional, and system-level firmware tests.
  • Create automated test scripts and validation procedures for embedded software.
  • Support prototype development, engineering builds, product verification, and production testing.
  • Investigate field issues, firmware defects, system failures, and intermittent hardware-software problems.
  • Perform root-cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
  • Manage firmware versions, source code, configurations, and release branches using version-control systems.
  • Participate in peer code reviews and follow coding and software-development standards.
  • Maintain architecture specifications, interface definitions, test plans, and release notes.
  • Support firmware deployment, product updates, bootloader processes, and over-the-air updates where applicable.
  • Collaborate with QA, manufacturing, product management, hardware, software, and engineering teams.
  • Evaluate new embedded platforms, processors, development tools, libraries, and technologies.
  • Improve firmware architecture, development methods, testing processes, and product reliability.

Core Qualifications
