Major Function
Performs skilled electrical work involving the installation, alteration, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems, equipment and fixtures.
This position supports the functionality and safety of County-operated buildings and infrastructure by ensuring electrical systems remain reliable and compliant with applicable codes.
This role contributes to the overall efficiency of the maintenance team by providing specialized trade expertise.
Electrical Maintenance And Repair
- Installs, maintains, alters and repairs electrical systems, equipment, fixtures, appliances, motors, controllers, switchboard panels, and lighting systems.
- Locates and corrects power failures and motor issues in electrically operated machinery and systems.
- Performs other electrical and mechanical work in repairing and replacing parts using standard and specialized electrical tools and diagnostic equipment.
Installation and Modifications
- Completes electrical additions and alterations in County buildings as directed.
- Conducts other mechanical and electrical repair work as required.
Documentation and Support
- Maintains accurate records of all maintenance and repair activities.
- May be assigned to assist with duties performed by other trade workers, depending on operational needs.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS
- Applies knowledge of standard tools, materials, methods, and practices in the electrical trade.
- Demonstrates understanding of electrical principles and theory.
- Performs tasks in compliance with occupational hazards and safety standards
- Knowledge of prevailing electrical codes.
- Installs, alters, repairs, maintains, and troubleshoots a wide range of electrical systems and components.
- Interprets and works from technical sketches, diagrams, and blueprints.
- Operates and maintains standard and specialized electrical tools, equipment and testing devices.
- Lifts, pushes, or pulls objects weighing up to eighty (80) pounds as part of routine work.
Minimum Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited high school or possess an acceptable equivalency diploma and have a minimum of three (3) years’ experience as an electrician.
- Must possess a valid driver's license and be able to secure and maintain a valid Florida driver's license at the time of employment.
- A comparable amount of related training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
- Must be able to pass a national background check, mandated by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, to include online security training.
Special Requirements
Must have home or cell phone as employee is subject to emergency call out and standby.
All employees will be required to work before, during, or after an emergency.
During an emergency, employees may temporarily be assigned to work and perform duties outside the normal scope of their position, location and work schedule to fit the needs of the county and its residents.
